COLUMBUS - State Senators Michael Rulli (R-Salem) and Jerry C. Cirino (R-Kirtland) today announced the passage of Senate Bill 44, which repeals the nuclear subsidy included in House Bill 6.

"Last General Assembly, I, and my constituents, had serious concerns about the provisions included in House Bill 6, which is why I voted no on that legislation," said Rulli. "By repealing the nuclear subsidy, this bill is an important step to fixing some of those issues and saving money for ratepayers, protecting Ohio jobs, and providing a clear path forward."

The bill removes the nuclear subsidy enacted in House Bill 6, lowering utility rates and saving $1 billion for Ohioans over the next seven years, while protecting the thousands of people employed by the zero emission nuclear facilities in Ohio.

"Our communities rely on vital energy jobs. Ohioans should know that elected officials are addressing their concerns as this legislation would protect ratepayers, Ohio’s green energy generation, and the local economies surrounding Ohio’s two nuclear plants,” said Cirino. "This bill is a win-win for everyday Ohioans, ensuring that utility rates say low while supporting reliable, cost-effective energy options for residents and businesses across Ohio."
