Today, state Senator Paula Hicks-Hudson (D-Toledo) issued the following statement regarding the Senate's passage of HB 184, a bill that originally protected inter-collegiate athletes after the end of their eligibility but later became a so-called "budget correction" bill that was loaded with significant policy changes and rushed through the legislative process with minimal scrutiny:

"When significant policy is decided in a last-minute rush without bipartisan input, we risk creating more complex and unintended consequences that we will be forced to address later," Hicks-Hudson said. "This has become a rushed attempt to fix an already flawed budget process, and in doing so, we are repeating the same mistakes. This process lacks the transparency and thoughtful deliberation that the people of Ohio deserve."
