COLUMBUS—State Senator Stephanie Kunze (R-Hilliard) today presented a resolution to Kristen Rost, Executive Director of the Ohio Children's Trust Fund, declaring April as Ohio Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month.

"Child abuse and neglect is a community problem, and finding the key to ending it depends on the cooperation and involvement of public leaders, family members, educators, faith-based and civic organizations throughout our state," said Kunze.

In the last year, more than 18,000 reports of child abuse or neglect were reported in Ohio.

Ohio Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month was established in 2002 in an effort to increase public awareness of the innocent victims of child abuse and to acknowledge child abuse as a serious societal problem to be addressed and eliminated.

"It is vital that we join forces to prevent the occurrence and reoccurrence of this preventable crime," Kunze added. "Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month in Ohio is a fitting time to focus our attention on this problem, not only throughout our state but also across our nation."

The Ohio Children's Trust Fund is the state's sole, dedicated public funding source for child abuse and neglect prevention housed within the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

To report suspected child abuse or neglect call 855 O-H-CHILD (855-642-4453).
