Kunze, Williams Announces Further Plans for Women's Suffrage Centennial Monument at the Statehouse

COLUMBUS— State Senators Stephanie Kunze (R-Hilliard) and Sandra Williams (D-Cleveland) today announced the Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board (CSRAB) has granted preliminary approval for the construction of a monument to be built on the Ohio Statehouse Grounds to honor the Centennial of the Women’s Suffrage. Senators Kunze and Williams serve as Co-Chairs for the Ohio Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission (WSCC). Their goal is to raise awareness of the importance and historical significance of the Nineteenth Amendment and to honor the women’s suffrage movement. The WSCC today sought approval from CSRAB to honor Ohio’s strong influence on the women’s suffrage movement by erecting a memorial monument on the prestigious grounds of the Ohio Statehouse. "Representation matters," said Kunze. "This monument will not only serve as a beautiful reminder of the Centennial of the Women’s Suffrage, but will also honor the history and success of the women’s suffrage movement in Ohio.” “WSCC is excited and prepared to work with CSRAB to ensure this historic women’s monument is erected on the Statehouse grounds,” said Williams. “This monument will not only celebrate the history of the Women’s Suffrage movement but also inspire future generations of leaders.” All costs associated with planning, designing and erecting the memorial will be paid entirely with private contributions. The Ohio History Connection (OHC) will accept private contributions for these purposes, and OHC will deposit contributions into the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission Memorial Fund held at the OHC.
