Senate Passes Kunze Bill Designating Stillbirth Prevention Day
COLUMBUS—The Ohio Senate passed Senate Bill 207 sponsored by State Senator Stephanie Kunze (R-Dublin) which designates September 19th as "Stillbirth Prevention Day."
"This legislation was brought to me by Dr. Michael Bullock after his daughter experienced the devastating loss of her infant, Miles," said Kunze. "Although this was a time of grief and sorrow for the Bullock family, the family's resilience provided them with a newfound purpose of helping others throughout the difficulties of pregnancy and infant loss. I am grateful that this day will bring awareness to this cause."
According to the Ohio Department of Health, a stillbirth occurs in approximately one out of 160 deliveries in the United States.
“Stillbirths are a devastating tragedy for families, and women of color are at a higher risk,” said Craig. “That is why it is imperative that we pass this crucial piece of legislation that will lend awareness to all the individuals and families that face the challenge of overcoming a loss of this magnitude.”
This legislation now heads to the Ohio House for consideration.
