Senator Kunze Recognizes Division I State Wrestling Champ
COLUMBUS—State Senator Stephanie Kunze (R-Dublin) today recognized Camden McDanel from Teays Valley High School for winning first place in the 2023 Division I State Wrestling Championship in the 190-pound weight class. This was Camden’s third straight championship match, and this year he secured the title with a 3-2 win.
"I look forward to seeing what Camden will accomplish athletically and academically in the future," said Kunze.
Camden is Teays Valley’s first State Champion since 1975, and only the second State Champion in school history. He was named 1st Team All-MSL Wrestler of the Year. Camden has committed to continue his wrestling career at the University of Nebraska. He is Teays Valley’s first athlete to go to the Big Ten.
Before beginning college, Camden will spend a year at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. He will be training for his next goal – qualifying for the USA Wrestling U20 world team.
