COLUMBUS - State Senator Steve Huffman (R-Tipp City) announced today the passage of Senate Bill 323, which will designate a stretch of State Route 55 as the Sheriff Sergeant William “Bill” Morris Memorial Highway.

Sergeant Morris was killed in the line of duty on November 22, 1972, after being shot while responding to a call involving two juveniles trying to steal a vehicle in Tipp City. Morris served 22 years with the Miami County Sheriff’s Office.

"The men and women who bravely serve in our district's law enforcement agencies put their lives on the line every day to ensure our safety," said Huffman. "Keeping their memory alive with these memorials is the very least we can do to show our deep and everlasting appreciation."

The Sheriff Sergeant William “Bill” Morris Memorial Highway will be located on State Route 55 between State Route 48 and the western border of the municipal corporation of Troy, in Miami County.
