COLUMBUS—State Senator Steve Huffman (R-Tipp City) is reminding those in the 5th Senate District about the upcoming back-to-school sales tax holiday which begins 12:00 a.m. Friday, August 1 until 11:59 p.m. Thursday, August 14.

"The sales tax holiday provides some financial relief for parents as they prepare for their kids return to the classroom," said Senator Huffman. "Ohio lawmakers extended the holiday to two weeks last year so that clothing can be bought for fast growing children and to make sure they have all the supplies needed for the classroom. I encourage every parent and consumer in Ohio to take advantage of these two weeks." The sales tax holiday includes all tangible personal property that is $500 or less except watercraft or outboard motors required to be titled pursuant to Chapter 1548 of the Revised Code, motor vehicles, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, vapor products, or items that contain marijuana.

Tangible personal property is any property that can be seen, weighed, measured, felt, or touched, including prewritten computer software. Some examples of tangible personal property include, but are not limited to, electronics, clothes, home goods, dine-in food, dietary supplements, pet food, toys, school and office supplies, sports equipment, luggage, musical instruments, personal care products, and soft drinks.
