Huffman Supports Funding Request for Miami County Interstate Project

COLUMBUS—State Senator Steve Huffman (R-Tipp City) supports the request to the Transportation Regional Advisory Council (TRAC) from Ohio Department of Transportation District 7 for $20 million towards lane expansion of Interstate 75 in Miami County.
"As the region grows it's necessary that our infrastructure is able to keep up with the increasing stress and demand that's required from it," said Senator Huffman. "This proposal recognizes the need for strengthening our transportation network so that Miami County, and the surrounding region, can support the transportation demands of a thriving state and community."
The funding will be used for the addition of a third travel lane in both directions on Interstate 75 from the current 6-lane to 4-lane transition in Troy to the Shelby County Line. Widening includes mainline bridge and bridge deck replacements and center median concrete barrier throughout the corridor to accommodate the additional lanes. Interchanges within the corridor will be evaluated to determine if capacity and operational improvements are necessary as part of the widening.
The purpose of the TRAC is to assist in the decision-making process on major statewide and regional transportation investments along routes with state or federal designations. The TRAC is a permanent body that oversees a selection process that includes the prioritization and approval for funding projects that are part of the Major New Capacity Program. The program, administered by ODOT, is defined as projects with an overall cost greater than $12 million, that increase capacity or reduce congestion, and that are critical to the mobility, economic development, and quality of life for the citizens of Ohio.
