COLUMBUS—State Senator Steve Huffman (R-Tipp City) today announced Senate passage of Senate Bill 267, his legislation to designate the month of August as “Bone Marrow Donation Awareness Month.” The bill is an effort to raise awareness of blood disorders and encourage bone marrow donations. Be The Match operates the world’s largest and most diverse registry of potential bone marrow donors, including more than 20 million potential donors and 295,000 cord blood units, but unfortunately this is not enough to meet the need of those who need a bone marrow transplant. "There is a need to increase the understanding of how bone marrow donation delivers cures and saves lives," said Huffman. "My hope is that this bill will do just that and encourage residents of Ohio to join the registry to ensure that all patients have an equal chance of finding a match." Senate Bill 267 will now be sent to the Ohio House for further consideration. For more information about becoming a bone marrow donor visit https://bethematch.org/.
