Senator Huffman Announces Multi-Million Dollar Investment for District Projects
COLUMBUS—State Senator Steve Huffman (R-Tipp City) announced the investment of millions of dollars from the One-Time Strategic Community Investment Fund (OTSCIF) to fund meaningful projects that will benefit our local communities and residents for years to come.
"These projects are valuable to the region and this funding will help make a difference in the lives of many," said Huffman. "I look forward to seeing this process progress over the next couple of weeks."
The following are some of the projects awarded funding in Senate District 5:
- Troy-Miami County Public Library Improvements - $500,000: These funds will help put in a new HVAC system and replace the current one that is nearly 50 years old and original to the building.
- Troy Great Miami River Recreation Connectivity Project - $2,000,000: These dollars will be used for the design, engineering, and construction of this project to allow for the direct connection to the newly created multi-use trail and for recreational paddlers to access the river; and construction of a pedestrian pathway.
- Saint Vincent de Paul Community Donation Intake Facility - $800,000: The organization will use these funds to improve and expand the donation dock by increasing accessibility, capacity, and efficiency to accept and distribute donations to residents in need.
- Catholic Social Services Supervised Visitation Center - $200,000: These dollars will be used to acquire additional parking adjacent to the facility to enhance the safety and security of children, parents, staff, and volunteers.
The funding for these projects came from the unique, one-time fund established under the state's current operating budget, House Bill 33, passed by the Ohio General Assembly in June of 2023.
The OTSCIF set aside $700 million as an additional source of funding allowing communities and organizations to apply for help with projects that might not qualify as part of the state's traditional Capital Budget that happens every two years.
Each chamber developed a plan for $350 million of the total amount while coordinating good faith negotiations to determine projects for the OTSCIF.
The Senate Finance Committee will begin hearings on the bill addressing the OTSCIF funding immediately.
