COLUMBUS—State Senator Terry Johnson (R-McDermott) today honored Isabella Burton of Clermont County for being named Ms. Wheelchair Ohio USA 2019.
Burton competed in Ms. Wheelchair USA in July, a competition sponsored by The Dane Foundation, to recognize the accomplishments of women with disabilities.
"Isabella's story is one of strength and courage, and I am proud to recognize such an inspiring individual,” said Johnson. “She represents the triumph of the human spirit."
A junior at UC Clermont College and graduate of Batavia High School, Burton was the first wheelchair athlete in the Cincinnati region. As Ms. Wheelchair Ohio, she has a platform to raise awareness of wheelchair sports and athletes.
"Thank you to Senator Johnson for this special recognition," said Burton. "Wheelchair sports allow students to be a part of a team, and being part of a team builds self-confidence and helps the disabled student feel like everyone else."
