COLUMBUS—State Senator Terry Johnson (R-McDermott) last week was announced as the recipient of the University of Rio Grande's Jim Marshall Veteran of the Year Award. This is the fifth year of the award, which celebrates veterans who have gone above and beyond the call of duty. "I am incredibly honored to receive this award and be listed among the amazing recipients of the past," Johnson said. "Thank you to the University of Rio Grande for this tremendous honor." Senator Johnson served in the Ohio Army National Guard for 21 years as a flight surgeon and was Ohio's first State Aviation Medical officer. He deployed multiple times overseas, including two tours in Iraq. Johnson ended his military career in 2011 as the Army Guard's State Surgeon, the highest position attainable for a Medical Corps officer at the time. The awards dinner has been postponed due to the pandemic until later this spring. For more information about the Jim Marshall Veteran of the Year Award, click here.
