Senator Johnson Announces $11.5 Million for Workforce and Health Services in Local Schools

COLUMBUS - State Senator Terry Johnson (R-McDermott) announced two school districts in the 14th Senate District will receive $11,553,473 to enhance workforce development opportunities and healthcare services. More than $88 million will support nearly a dozen Appalachian school districts to improve public health and career readiness.   

"This is an incredible investment into our local schools that will have lasting impacts on our next generation and on our entire region," Johnson said. "I am excited to see how these new programs and additions will help more Ohioans access healthcare and build the skills they need to find successful careers."

Districts receiving funds include:Fayetteville-Perry Local Schools, $10,842,473: These dollars will extend the career-tech education programs, add an on-site lab, pharmacy, and patient rooms, and create a multi-purpose wellness and training space.
New Richmond Exempted Village Schools, $711,000: Funds will support the creation of a school-based health center, a satellite office for Ohio Means Jobs, and space for career certification courses in in-demand occupations.
The funding comes from the Appalachian Community Innovation Centers Program, which aims to establish full-service centers for public education, health services, and career development that are open to any Ohioan who needs assistance. The dollars will cover construction and renovations costs.
