Gavarone Introduces Bill Eliminating Sales Tax on American and Ohio Flag Purchases
COLUMBUS—State Senator Theresa Gavarone (R-Bowling Green) this week introduced Senate Bill 52, legislation to eliminate the sales tax on purchases of the United States flag and the Ohio flag.
The idea for the legislation came from a constituent in Wood County whose son serves in the Ohio National Guard.
Currently, at least 10 states do not charge a sales tax for American flags, and four others do not charge a sales tax for flags purchased under certain conditions.
“I was stunned when my constituent informed me that Ohioans were being charged a sales tax to purchase American and Ohio flags,” Gavarone said. “I love seeing the American and Ohio flags flying proudly when traveling across my district and I can’t wait to see even more of them after we make it more affordable to purchase these symbols of freedom by eliminating the sales tax through this bill.”
Senate Bill 52 will be referred to a committee for further consideration.
