Gavarone Speaks Out About A City of Toledo Proposal To Misuse Taxpayer Dollars

COLUMBUS - State Senator Theresa Gavarone (R-Bowling Green) today issued the following statement in response to Toledo City Council's proposal to use COVID-19 relief dollars to fund out-of-state abortions:

"It’s a sad day when the Toledo City Council is considering spending $100,000 in federal taxpayer dollars on trips for women seeking abortions, instead of addressing issues like devastating poverty and rampant crime. Bear in mind, this federal money is to be used for COVID-19 relief efforts to rebuild, restore, and bring prosperity back to our communities—not fund efforts to destroy and take away more life.

With serious consideration being given to this proposal, the City of Toledo must be so flush with cash that their locally elected officials will not need to ask the General Assembly for any money during next year’s state operating budget.

I strongly encourage the people of Toledo who oppose this heinous behavior and gross improper use of taxpayer money to speak out to their City Council members. We should be seeking solutions for our cities by supporting the police, workforce and education system, and ensuring our taxpayer dollars are spent on the well-being of human lives rather than the destruction of them.”
