COLUMBUS—State Senator Theresa Gavarone (R-Bowling Green) will receive the Muriel Bertsch Award from the Ohio Association of Senior Centers (OASC) on March 18, 2019 for her work to secure funding for a new senior center in Wood County.
During her time in the legislature, Gavarone worked with the Wood County Committee on Aging (WCCOA) to secure $1.6 million in the 2018 Capital Budget for the construction of the new Wood County Senior Center. WCCOA Executive Director Denise Niese nominated Gavarone for the award.
“Denise has presented me with many opportunities to get involved with the senior community,” said Gavarone. “After participating in events, meeting with seniors and traveling to senior centers I knew how important it was that we provided more resources for our aging population. To be recognized for that work and joining past winners like Governor DeWine, Betty Montgomery and Denise herself is truly special.”
The OASC supports and enhances the ability of Ohio’s senior center network to effectively serve older adults by providing education, mentoring and training to senior center and aging network staff.
Senator Gavarone will be presented with the award during OASC’s Annual Spring Conference in Columbus.
