COLUMBUS—State Senator Tom Patton (R-Strongsville) and State Senator Jane Timken (R-Jackson Township), introduced Senate Bill 159 that would modify the Ohio Motion Picture Tax Credit (OMPTC) in order to attract even more film production in our state.

"Supporting the growth of our film industry is one of the best promotional opportunities for our state," said Senator Patton. "With Texas increasing their credit to $500 million, Pennsylvania implementing a $100 million cap, and Georgia at an unlimited cap, our proposed $100 million annual credit allows us to be a competitive player in the film industry. By having these credits, we will be able to attract productions that boost local economies across the Buckeye State."

"Ohio has the opportunity to highlight its beauty and unique landscape by bringing film and theater production to Ohio," Senator Timken said. "SB 159 will bring more local jobs and is estimated to have a return on investment over 300%. This will be a win for Ohio and allow us to be competitive with states like Georgia and Texas."

The legislation increases the appropriation for qualifying productions from $50 million to $100 million each fiscal year as well as streamlining the OMPTC application process on a first-come, first-serve basis. The bill also removes $5 million in capital projects that are not being utilized for industry-related investments.

The legislation has been referred to the Senate Ways and Means Committee for further consideration.
