COLUMBUS—State Senator Tom Patton (R-Strongsville) introduced expanded homestead tax relief for disabled veterans. Senate Bill 92 helps address the additional pressure facing families from recent property valuations.

"Our disabled veterans have already sacrificed so much for the country, there is no reason why they should feel like their homes are threatened by unaffordable increases in their property taxes," said Senator Patton. "My colleagues and I are working to address property tax affordability, and in the interim we must protect those who protected us on the front lines."

Senate Bill 92 does two basic things:Increases the homestead exemption for veterans who are fully disabled to the full amount of their property tax bill. This is an increase from the current level of $52,300 to a complete exemption.
Extends the complete exemption to surviving spouses of veterans who were 100% disabled.
The bill was introduced this week, and will be assigned to a committee where hearings will get underway.
