Akron Lawmakers Encourage Parents To Take Advantage Of Open Preschool Slots

Columbus – Today, state Senator Vernon Sykes (D-Akron), together with state Representatives Emilia Sykes (D-Akron) and Tavia Galonski (D-Akron), announced that a number of preschools offering quality, early childhood education programs in the Greater Akron area have open slots available at free or reduced cost.

Akron City School District, Springfield Local Schools and Akron’s Kids Play Child Care Learning Centers all have open slots for three to four years old.

“Studies show that high-quality early childhood education is linked to higher lifetime income, better health and higher educational attainment,” said Senator Sykes. “These open slots are a great opportunity to ensure children in Akron thrive. I hope parents will take advantage of them.”

“Pre-school provides an important foundation of early childhood development that can help your child succeed throughout their education,” said Representative Sykes.

“Early childhood education is too important to the future of Akron for these spots to go unfilled,” said Representative Galonski.

The announcement is part of the Akron lawmakers’ efforts to raise awareness on the importance and benefits of early childhood education.
