Ohio Redistricting Commission Launches Redistricting.Ohio.Gov

Today, state Senator Vernon Sykes (D-Akron) and Ohio House Speaker Bob Cupp (R-Lima), co-chairs of the Ohio Redistricting Commission, announced the launch of the Commission’s website. The website, which can be found at www.redistricting.ohio.gov, includes information about how members of the public can watch commission hearings and submit map proposals and written testimony.
“There are many ways members of the public can participate in the redistricting process, even if they cannot attend an in-person hearing. This website is a great resource for all who wish to be involved,” Senator Sykes said. “Ohio’s legislative maps will have an impact on everyone in our state, so I encourage everyone to visit the website, stay informed and testify or submit map proposals.”
In addition to providing details about dates and locations for the Commission’s upcoming regional public hearings, the website provides access to witness slips for Ohioans who are interested in testifying in-person or submitting written testimony to the Commission. The website also provides access to 2020 U.S. Census data, which members of the public can use to create map proposals of their own. Maps can be uploaded to the website as ZIP files.
“The website is an additional platform where Ohioans from across the state can engage and the Commission can receive input on this important issue,” Speaker Cupp said. “This will provide another layer of transparency and avenue of communication for the public as we continue our work through a fair redistricting process.”
From Monday, August 23 through Friday, August 27, the Commission will host a series of regional public hearings so Ohioans can share their thoughts on the future of the state’s legislative districts. The Commission’s primary responsibility is to draw legislative maps, so Ohioans who wish to testify during the public hearings are asked to limit their comments to the adoption of Ohio House and Ohio Senate districts.
The events will be live-streamed by the Ohio Channel, and all live and archived videos will be accessible through the Redistricting Commission website. Information about when and where the hearings will be held can be found at www.redistricting.ohio.gov/meetings.
