Sen. Sykes Condemns Senate Passage of Republican Congressional Map
Today, state Senator Vernon Sykes (D-Akron) released the following statement after the Senate passed, on a party-line vote, Senate Bill 258 – a congressional district map that continues to gerrymander Ohio’s communities:

“The people of Ohio told us time and time again in the past few years that they wanted fair districts and fair maps. They wanted more fairness. Republicans offered them less.

“The map adopted today is not an improvement over our current congressional map. It is designed to favor one party and dilute the voting power of Democrats and racial minorities. It was rushed through the Senate and disregards the constitutional reforms Ohioans overwhelmingly approved in 2018. I am deeply disappointed by how this process played out. Ohioans deserved better.”
