Senator Sykes Calls for Bipartisan Movement on E-school Reform
Today, state Senator Vernon Sykes (D-Akron) released the following statement in response to state Auditor Dave Yost’s press conference regarding the latest audit on ECOT:

“I am saddened by the conduct of ECOT and its apparent failure to educate many of our students. Their deception of the Ohio Department of Education and nefarious misuse of taxpayer dollars have lost them the public trust. For the good of all of Ohio’s students, the General Assembly needs to immediately move to strengthen the transparency and accountability of e-schools and their associates. It is our duty to be better stewards of public funds to maximize our children's potential and Ohio's future.

“It is within the legislature’s mandate to create a more efficient and effective education system so that Ohio’s children have the opportunity to thrive. Members of the General Assembly have a moral obligation to work together toward bipartisan e-school reform. Senate Bill 39, which comprehensively addresses the operation of e-schools, is a great place to continue the work started by House Bill 2 of the 131st General Assembly. Taxpayer fraud is unacceptable, but our failure to provide a quality education to Ohio’s kids is reprehensible.”
