Today, state Senator Vernon Sykes (D-Akron) issued a statement following Governor DeWine’s announcement awarding $135 million in grants to support Critical Water Infrastructure Projects in 64 counties throughout the state, including $1.5 million for the City of Streetsboro in Portage County.

"I am happy that Governor DeWine and the Department of Development are continuing to support the momentum of H2Ohio and Ohio BUILDS by making investments to ensure Ohioans in every community have a safe, clean and plentiful water supply,” said Sykes. “These grants represent another great step in the right direction for the health of Ohio’s water infrastructure, but we know that the work is far from over.”

The Ohio BUILDS (Broadband, Utilities, and Infrastructure for Local Development Success) water infrastructure program was launched in 2021 as a continuation of the H2Ohio program. Since its inception, Ohio BUILDS has awarded nearly $500 million to support 343 local water projects impacting each of Ohio’s 88 counties.

The $1.5 million grant to the City of Streetsboro will be used to improve water main extensions at various locations within the city and is expected to benefit 14,565 people.
