Sykes Applauds Passage of Road Naming Omnibus Bill
This week, state Senator Vernon Sykes (D-Akron) commended the Ohio Senate’s passage of House Bill 81, which makes multiple memorial designations to roads and highways across the state and was amended to include Senator Sykes’ Senate Bill 141 to designate a portion of Interstate 77 in Akron the “American Gold Star Mothers, Inc. Memorial Highway.”
"I am proud to have helped unanimously pass House Bill 81 out of the Senate,” Sykes said. “I am also grateful that the Senate Transportation Committee included Senate Bill 141 in the substitute bill. This highway dedication would pay just a small amount in the large debt of gratitude that we owe to these mothers, their children, and their families.”
The American Gold Star Mothers, Inc. is a nonprofit organization comprised of mothers whose children have died or gone missing-in-action in service of the United States Armed Forces. The organization currently retains chapters in 49 states and the District of Columbia.
House Bill 81 will return to the Ohio House of Representatives for a concurrence vote on Senate amendments before heading to Governor Mike DeWine’s desk. Follow House Bill 81 here.
