Today, state Senator Vernon Sykes (D-Akron) supported the Ohio Controlling Board’s decision to release $175 million in federal funding to assist local governments across Ohio as they continue to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Having served on city council, I am well aware of local governments’ needs, particularly during challenging situations like the coronavirus pandemic,” said Sykes, who is a sitting member on the Controlling Board. “These funds will assist local communities and support essential local services.”
The additional funding will be disbursed to each county's coronavirus relief distribution fund, which will then distribute it to counties, municipalities and townships that have adopted a resolution or ordinance affirming their intent to spend funds only on pandemic-related expenses, as required under the CARES Act.
