This week, state Senator Vernon Sykes (D-Akron) supported the Ohio Controlling Board’s decision to release more than $50 million in federal funding to assist local health departments, Joint Vocational School Districts, children with IEPs and behavioral health providers across Ohio as they continue to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“As Ohio continues to report record-high number of Covid-19 cases, it is essential to give Ohioans the necessary resources to respond to this pandemic,” said Sykes, who is a sitting member on the Controlling Board. “We must also continue to support our local health departments and essential workers as they work vigorously to combat this virus.”
Of the released funds, $30 million will be disbursed to Ohio's 113 local health departments to support their response activities and pandemic relief work. About $2 million will allow the Learning Aid Ohio program to expand their services for students with IEPs who need in-person help during the pandemic, and more than $8 million will be distributed to Joint Vocational School Districts for coronavirus response efforts. Additionally, $15.2 million will be redistributed to providers who serve Ohioans with mental health and addiction issues.
Additional distribution details for these funds can be found here.
