DeMora Blasts Big Ten for Restricting Ohio State Game to Streaming

Today, state Senator Bill DeMora (D-Columbus) condemned the Big Ten Conference for having another Ohio State football game that is only being broadcast on their horrible streaming service, Peacock.

“I am the biggest Ohio State football fan in Ohio, and I will not be watching their game on September 28 because I cannot stand Peacock!” said DeMora. “The Big Ten Conference is raking in billions and all we get is a laggy, pixelated stream with audio that is never synced. The Big Ten tried this last year, and we saw how it worked out: everyday people and small businesses got shafted! Why do we, the consumer, have to pay higher prices to get a much worse product? It is a blatant scam fueled only by corporate greed. The Big Ten should be ashamed of themselves!”

The latest media rights agreement, valued at up to $10 billion, between the Big Ten Conference and networks including CBS, FOX, and NBC has resulted in more Ohio State games being exclusively streamed on streaming services, like NBC’s Peacock. This shift has drawn criticism from fans and local businesses alike, who are grappling with elevated subscription costs and fees for restaurants in excess of $1,000. Additionally, the streaming issues have led to widespread dissatisfaction with the quality of the broadcasts.

In response to these ongoing issues, Senator DeMora introduced Senate Bill 221, which aims to prohibit conferences such as the Big Ten from entering into exclusivity deals for any sporting events. The bill would also require that all students have free access to watch their classmates compete.
