DeMora Blasts Republican Power Grab
Today, state Senator Bill DeMora (D-Columbus) issued the following statement after the Ohio Senate passed House Bill 1, which bans political contributions by foreign nationals and unnecessarily expands the attorney general’s enforcement authority, sidelining the bipartisan Ohio Elections Commission.
“This is a textbook undemocratic Republican power grab,” said DeMora. “This bill will stifle the voices of all Ohioans, bar lawful permanent residents from donating to candidates and campaigns, and give the hack attorney general broad powers to investigate his enemies and protect his friends. Yet it never had any testimony in the Senate. The people of Ohio will not be silenced, and I look forward to the day that this sham bill will be overturned in the courts.”
Pursuant to the governor’s proclamation for special session, the Senate also passed House Bill 2 to allow President Biden to be on the November ballot.
