Today, state Senator Bill DeMora (D-Columbus) strongly condemned Attorney General Dave Yost’s decision to sign a letter alongside 18 other Republican state attorneys general in an attempt to force Costco to abandon its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies. Yost’s decision comes after 98% of the business’ shareholders voted to keep the policies in place.

“What business does the government have in forcing a company to abandon its policies that have been shown to work and are widely popular?” said DeMora. “This is all just a ploy from the failed reporter turned MAGA extremist to get on the orange-haired menace’s good side as he runs for Governor. He doesn’t actually care about the people that he is hurting with these decisions.”

The letter comes after the right-wing think tank National Center for Public Policy Research forced a vote on a proposal to end Costco’s DEI practice. The measures typically get less than two percent of shareholder support as DEI policies have been shown to help businesses be successful and support employees, however, the think tank says they are prepared to force similar votes for 40 other private businesses

After the vote failed, the chairman of Costco’s board responded by saying, "We owe our success to the more than 300,000 employees who serve our members every day. It is important that they all feel included and appreciated and that they transmit these values to our customers."
