DeMora Condemns Dishonest and Biased Ballot Language
Today, state Senator Bill DeMora (D-Columbus) condemned the misleading language that Republicans on the Ohio Ballot Board approved to appear on the November 2023 ballot summarizing State Issue 1, the Ohio constitutional amendment to guarantee reproductive freedom.
“After his humiliating defeat in the August special election, you would think Secretary LaRose would quit lying to voters,” said DeMora. “But you would be wrong. Secretary LaRose has doubled down to try and trick the voters of Ohio into supporting his backward viewpoints.”
Secretary of State Frank LaRose’s office chose to use deceitful imagery rife with bias, including phrases like “unborn child” instead of the medically accurate term “fetus.” Given the inaccuracies and the fact that the ballot language pushed by Secretary LaRose was longer than the amendment it sought to summarize, supporters of State Issue 1 requested the full amendment language that was supported by nearly 500,000 Ohioans appear on the ballot.
Issue 1 will be up for election in November along with Issue 2, which concerns the recreational adult use of marijuana.
