DeMora Condemns Recent Gun Violence in Central Ohio

Today, state Senator Bill DeMora (D-Columbus) issued a statement following several fatal shootings that occurred over the weekend in Central Ohio.

“These latest tragedies are another solemn reminder of the havoc that guns are wreaking in our communities,” said DeMora. “My thoughts are with the families of the victims, but thoughts and prayers are not enough. The legislature has failed the people of Ohio. We can and must do better. For the sake of our children, we need to pass common sense gun legislation in the coming months, including safe storage requirements, extreme risk protection orders, trigger locks and universal background checks.”

On Saturday, a fatal shooting took place on Schrock Road, claiming the life of a 19-year-old. On Sunday, a shooting occurred at Easton Town Center, claiming the life of a juvenile. As of today, the City of Columbus has experienced 106 homicides this year, 88% of which have been committed with a firearm.
