DeMora Condemns Supreme Court Decision to Protect Corporate Interests
This week, state Senator Bill DeMora (D-Columbus) condemned the Ohio Supreme Court’s decision not to reconsider Berkheimer v. REKM, a case that originally found that consumers must expect to find bones in boneless chicken wings.
“I am ashamed but not surprised that Republicans on the state Supreme Court have doubled down on the biggest legal joke in the country,” said DeMora. “It is ridiculous that the Republican party thinks so little of the people of Ohio that they are comfortable keeping the ridiculous legal fiction that boneless wings should be expected to have bones in them in order to protect their corporate owners rather than stand up for the people of Ohio!”
The dissent in the re-hearing decision cites numerous state and national news sources mocking the Ohio Supreme Court’s original decision. The unfortunate and misguided decision robs Ohioans of basic safety and reassurance regarding their own food and is an abuse of the people of Ohio for the benefit of corporate interests.
