Today, state Senator Bill DeMora (D-Columbus) condemned the Trump administration’s decision to pause all immigration procedures, including naturalization ceremonies, for immigrants from 19 countries.

“It is absolutely despicable that millions of people across America and thousands of Ohioans who have worked for years to gain citizenship will have to put their lives on pause, all because the President needs to look tough on immigration,” said DeMora. “The White House is underwater on every important issue and is now desperately flailing to cover up its failures. This policy is hurting my constituents, and it is unacceptable.”

On December 2, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced it would pause immigration processing for 19 nations, including Somalia, Afghanistan, and Haiti. This follows President Trump’s recent disparaging comments, calling Somalis “garbage” and saying he doesn’t “want them in our country” when speaking about refugees fleeing to America.
