DeMora Condemns Yost's Selection of January 6 Conspirator for Solicitor General
Today, state Senator Bill DeMora (D-Columbus) spoke out against the selection of Elliot Gaiser to replace Ben Flowers for the position of Ohio solicitor general.
“It is completely reprehensible that the Attorney General has decided to place an election-denying enemy of democracy as Ohio’s representative in front of the Supreme Court,” said DeMora. “We need to condemn those responsible for one of the darkest moments of America’s democracy, not empower those responsible.”
Elliot Gaiser worked on the Donald Trump reelection bid, specifically on “election integrity.” He was mentioned numerous times in the Congressional January 6 hearings as giving advice to the president and his co-conspirators about possible options shortly before the insurrection attempt at the Capitol. When asked if his involvement in the insurrection attempt raised any concern for Attorney General Yost, spokeswoman Bethany McCorkle replied: "Elliot is a nationally respected constitutional law expert. He is Ohio's next solicitor general because of his knowledge and expertise in the law.”
