DeMora Denounces Senate's Veto Override of H.B. 68
Today, state Senator Bill DeMora (D-Columbus) condemned the Ohio Senate’s decision to override the governor’s veto of House Bill 68, which bans gender-affirming care for trans minors and bans transgender student athletes from participating in sports that align with their gender identity.
“I am unfortunately not surprised by this result,” said DeMora. “Instead of passing one of the dozens of bipartisan, no-nonsense bills that would actually help Ohioans, we instead spend all of our time oppressing an already marginalized group just to fill campaign war chests. Lives were destroyed today. The Senate was given a rare opportunity to reflect after passing a bad bill, and it was squandered.”
Governor DeWine vetoed H.B. 68 in December and shortly after, issued executive orders and proposed administrative rules that are even more extreme than House Bill 68.
