DeMora Issues Response to Governor's State of the State
Today, state Senator Bill DeMora (D-Columbus) issued the following statement in response to Governor Mike DeWine’s State of the State address:
“Every child should be able to attend a good school, no matter their race, religion, or zip code—which is why Ohio should focus on fully funding our public schools," Sen. DeMora said. "We cannot voucher our way out of the education crisis that we are facing in Ohio. Fully funding our public schools is the only true option.”
Following the State of the State address, Senate Democrats highlighted their plan to create a budget that works for everyone and invests in Ohio families and workers. Some of their priorities include fostering economic recovery; investing in education by fully funding the Fair School Funding Plan; ensuring affordable and quality childcare and early childhood education; prioritizing safe and affordable housing; protecting the environment; and strengthening democracy.
“The Governor spoke about having several large projects coming to Ohio. However, all of these new opportunities would require a workforce of young college-educated people. But what recent college grad would want to move to this state given the fact that they will have fewer rights living here than they would living in any of our surrounding states? If the state of Ohio expects young Ohioans to stay here and future Ohioans to move here, we need to take action to ensure that Ohio is a welcoming place for all.”
