Today, state Senator Bill DeMora (D-Columbus) voiced opposition to Senate Bill 271, which would designate a Charlie Kirk Memorial Day.

“This bill is just trying to get cheap political points from a political assassination and is a waste of everyone's time,” said DeMora. “There is no reason to honor the life of someone who was never an Ohio resident, never went to school in Ohio, and whose only connection to our state was when he would go around and spread hate on college campuses!”

Senate Bill 271 would designate October 14 as Charlie Kirk Memorial Day. Charlie Kirk was a podcaster who repeatedly said racist, sexist, homophobic and antisemitic comments, including:

  • “We made a huge mistake when we passed the Civil Rights Act in the 1960s.”
  • “Jewish donors have been the No. 1 funding mechanism of radical open-border, neoliberal, quasi-Marxist policies, cultural institutions and nonprofits,” and
  • “I think it’s worth it. It’s worth having a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God given rights.”

In response to Senate Bill 271, Senator DeMora plans to introduce legislation soon to honor 13 true patriots, including true Ohioans Neil Armstrong, Woody Hayes, and Thomas Edison.
