DeMora Responds to Governor's State of the State Address
Today, state Senator Bill DeMora (D-Columbus) issued the following statement in response to Governor Mike DeWine’s State of the State address.
“While the governor tried his best to make mountains out of molehills and highlight the stripped-down initiatives that passed years ago, the truth is that the state of our state is bleak! Between lower wages, rising housing prices, some of the harshest anti-LGBTQ+ laws and strictest voting laws in the country, and a corrupt legislature that does nothing but fill their own pockets, it is no wonder that every year we lose population to the surrounding states and both coasts!” said DeMora. “Instead of listening to the governor, the only thing you need to know is that the true state of the state is the scandal hanging over both the governor and lieutenant governor’s heads – two co-conspirators dead, others in federal prison, and who knows what else to come!”
“The people, not the government, are leading the only positive things happening in Ohio politics! Protecting reproductive freedoms, the fight for fair maps, fair voting laws, and a higher minimum wage. These are the ideals that the governor and the state legislature should be fighting for. Instead, they are putting all of their weight into crushing them!”
Following the Governor’s State of the State address, Senate and House Democrats held a joint press conference to highlight their legislative priorities to make Ohio the best place to live, work and raise a family. These priorities include providing economic relief to working families, rooting out and preventing government corruption, solving Ohio’s housing crisis, expanding access to health care, fostering public safety through commonsense legislation, supporting the state education system, protecting the environment, and ensuring all Ohioans are treated equitably and fairly.
