Career Technical Training Center Comes to Shelby County | 2026 Capital Budget

The 2026 capital budget continues to make an impact on our communities, small and large, all across the state. This week, we went to Senator Susan Manchester's district to check out the site where a 12,000-sq. ft. workforce training center will be built. 

The training center, located next to Sidney High School, will include a welding and manufacturing lab, construction lab, agriculture education lab, adult diploma program, a community conference room, and more. The primary focus will be to provide career technical training to high school students, under the guidance of Upper Valley Career Center. 

Senior Press Secretary Libby Krieger went to interview some of the local leaders involved in this project to hear about how it will impact Shelby County. They said that they've seen such a growth of demand in career technical training, that they've outgrown their current spaces.

This training center will provide high school students the opportunities to explore career technical trades that bring good-paying jobs. The Shelby County Workforce Partnership also works to connects local businesses with these students, to both give the businesses chances to recruit local talent and the students a chance to consider staying in Shelby County with a good job. 

Some of the local businessmen said they need to hire many employees still, and this project will benefit the local workforce substantially. 

The Capital Budget isn't an abstract thing. It's helping individuals, communities, and generations to come. 

Whether it's investing in the arts, local infrastructure, or workforce development, Capital Budget projects help keep Ohio a great place to live, work, and raise a family.
