Ohio.

Outpost of the American Revolution.

The First Settlement of the Northwest Territory in 1787, Ohio would become a state in 1803. We are a land rich in history, war, and resolve. It all makes up a remarkable trail of historic sites as the United States celebrates its 250th birthday with America 250 this year.

From the  Campus Martius Museum in Marietta to President Warren G. Harding's Home and Museum in Marion, to the magnificent Wright Brothers National Museum in Dayton, there are many places worth a one tank trip to visit.

One place that is worth starting your Ohio 250 Tour is the iconic Ohio Statehouse.

Of course Columbus was not the first capital of Ohio, and it wasn't even the second capital.

Join us for a special President's Podcast this week with the Historic Site Manager of the Ohio Statehouse, Chris Matheney.

He has forgotten more Ohio history than you and I will ever know, and he has just published a new book titled, "Ohio Rising, Journey to Statehood."

Well written and well illustrated, Matheney describes the Ohio Country during the pioneer days.

French, British, and American garrisons staked claims to the land as the French and Indian War raged throughout the countryside.

Matheney tells an intriguing story on the President's Podcast and provides unique insight to the days leading up to the construction of the Ohio Statehouse, its design, historic limestone foundation, prison labor that helped build it, and of course its Cupola that received the appreciation of Frank Lloyd Wright.

When you visit, make sure to pick up a copy of the Senate's 136th General Assembly Program. Find your senator, scan the QR code at the bottom of their page, and watch the greeting from an historic site in their district that they wanted to highlight for America 250.

Both Ohio Rising and The Ohio Senate Program are free.

Also, watch our exclusive tour of the Ohio Statehouse that we recorded during the 2020 pandemic with former Senator Bill Coley and Chris Matheney. We cover the Crypt to the Cupola.
