Happy New(s) Year from the Ohio Senate!

Here's to a very busy election year for 2026 as the effort to repeal property taxes pushes on despite the historic reforms made by the General Assembly to rein in runaway tax rates.

Watch the definitive President's Podcast with Senate President Rob McColley who spelled out the reforms while delivering a textbook refresher on how property taxes are collected strictly at the local level.

A moment of remarkable clarity from cleveland.com in its column featuring "The most uplifting and most disturbing news stories of 2025: Editorial Board Roundtable," as board member Mary Kay Doherty highlighted and praised the passage of Senate Bill 1, Ohio's new Advance Higher Education Act that was signed into law by the governor.

The paper had vilified bill sponsor Senator Jerry Cirino over the last two General Assemblies as he worked to end indoctrination on campus and restore the mission of higher education.

New this week, Senator Cirino was featured by his hometown newspaper, "The News-Herald," for a look back at the achievements this legislative year brought from a flat income tax, property tax reforms, and the critical reforms to higher education.

Senator Cirino serves as Finance Chairman, and played a key role in crafting the new state budget that was passed at the end of June. Here is an excerpt from what he told news-herald.com.
