Mr. Rulli Goes to Washington

No one expected Ohio to send a punk-rock conservative to Congress

A punk rock Republican politician?

Why not?

Former State Senator (and soon to be Congressman) Michael Rulli embodies the libertarian streak in Republican Party politics – and in rock n’ roll:

“To me, punk rock is the freedom to create, freedom to be successful, freedom to not be successful, freedom to be who you are. It's freedom.” – Patti Smith

And that’s Mike Rulli.

Freedom-loving proud patriot.

Fierce advocate for his constituents.

One of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet.

Popular among senate colleagues on both sides of the aisle.

One of kind.

Rulli has played in four bands over the past 25 years, ranging from grunge to indie rock, and alternative to rockabilly. His bands have released three full length albums, two EPs, and three singles. He currently plays mostly jazz and alternative rock out of his home studio.

But some of the comments from his fans on social media reveal more about Rulli the man than Rulli the musician:

     •     “PEOPLE! I am a life long Democrat and Liberal and damn proud of it! MICHAEL RULLI will be the first republican I support as he is a brother to me! ... God Bless Jimbo!!”

     •     “Mike really cares about the people in this community. He relates well with both young and old. I would vote for him in a minute.”

     •     “Oh PEOPLE do we not love this guy or what ? Lol is he the REAL DEAL who needs to represent the people of this county or what or what !! Lol”

     •     “Well rounded talent and intelligence with lots and lots of congeniality.”

Just some of the reasons we are going to miss him in the Ohio Senate, because...like a modern-day Jimmy Stewart....Mr. Rulli is going to Washington.

Rulli will represent Ohio’s 6th Congressional District after winning a special election on June 11. He will be sworn into office on June 25.

He was an exemplary “man of the people” in Columbus and we expect no less as he represents Ohioans in our nation’s capital.
