The day after voters went to the polls in their local elections, members of the Ohio Senate cast their own votes on legislation that serves their constituents. Any issue, no matter how big or small, is brought to the floor of Ohio’s Upper Chamber every time it is in Session. Whether it is ensuring proper labeling of imitation foods, to honoring service members who gave their lives for freedom, to setting standards for mail-in ballots, the Senate works to best serve the citizens of the Buckeye State.

The seven bills passed by the Ohio Senate are the following:

  • House Bill 10 – Sponsored by Representatives Roy Klopfenstein and Jack Daniels, the bill regulates mislabeled food products that fail to differentiate between imitation and animal-based meat and eggs.
  • House Bill 38 – Sponsored by Representative Sarah Fowler Arthur, designates a portion of State Route 87 in Geauga County as the Dr. Steven Takacs Veteran Memorial Highway. Dr. Takacs served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserves and operated a family practice in Geauga County for over 30 years while also being an active volunteer in the community.
  • Senate Bill 224 – Sponsored by Senator Theresa Gavarone, updates Ohio law so that bad acting telemarketers can be held liable for harassment of Ohioans.
  • Senate Bill 229 – Sponsored by Senator Mark Romanchuk, establishes the Law Enforcement Purple Heart license plate and allows officers who have received the award to apply for the specialty plate free of charge.
  • Senate Bill 244 – Sponsored by Senators Kristina Roegner and Jane Timken, designates August 26 as Abbey Gate Remembrance Day in honor of the U.S. service members who lost their lives in the attack at the Abbey Gate of Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan, on August 26, 2021.
Senator Timken speaks to bill honoring the 13 service members killed in Kabul on August 26, 2021.
  • Senate Bill 282 – Sponsored by Senator Tim Schaffer, creates the American Motorcyclist Association License Plate.

  • Senate Bill 293 – Sponsored by Senators Theresa Gavarone and Andrew Brenner, requires all mail-in ballots to be delivered to the board of elections by close of the polls on Election Day in order to be counted. This legislation eliminates the four-day grace period for mail-in ballots if they were postmarked before Election Day.

A bill from Senators Brenner and Gavarone safeguarding Ohio's elections passed the Senate.

The Ohio Senate continues its mission to represent all of Ohio’s citizens in developing sound policies, protecting citizens and helping the less fortunate.
