Ohio Redistricting Commission Unanimously Approves New Congressional Map for Remainder of Decade

Redistricting Resolved.

The process worked.

That process Article XIX, which was passed by 75% of the voters in 2018 produced a new Congressional Map for the remainder of the decade with a unanimous vote.

The entire process passed by voters required minority party participation and their votes to get to a map for the rest of the decade. That is exactly what happened. Unlike the last time, influence by outside special interest groups like the NDRC was rejected in favor of good faith negotiations.

Unanimously Passed 2025 Congressional Map

Ironically those same far left groups heavily criticized the commission and the Democrats, calling it a back room gerrymander.

Here's an idea for all of those far left critics presenting the straw man argument demanding a "fair map" where the "people choose their politicians." Let's make every single congressional district a statewide vote of the people. In other words, an "at-large" vote for congressional districts. The people would then truly pick their politicians just like they do for all of the Executive Branch offices. Oh, that's right. The people haven't elected a Democrat to a statewide Executive Branch office since 2006. So, please spare us the hollow "grassroots anti-gerrymandering" special interest sales pitch.

For those on the far right demanding a so-called 13-2 map based on the wild gerrymandering plan out of California, please look closer at the law spelled out under Article XIX. When the Redistricting Commission passes a map, and in this case a unanmious map, it isn't subject to the potential for a referendum, which would be the case if the Ohio General Assembly passed a map as a bill during the third stage of Article XIX.

By avoiding the potential for a referendum, this new map will be in place for the 2026 election instead of potentially being delayed until 2028.
