Senate Passes $350 Million in Additional Property Tax Relief to Seniors with Homestead Exemption
A huge week for the Ohio Senate and the Ohio House.
The General Assembly passed a budget corrections bill redirecting $350 million of this year's surplus to property tax relief for more than 700,000 Ohioans who qualify for the Homestead Exemption.
This will provide an additional $475 break to their bill starting in January.
Also, the budget bill provides $320 million to expand the very popular Sales Tax Holiday out to two weeks in 2027.
You'll also see a constitutional amendment this fall at your polling place that would make photo identification a constitutional requirement to vote. That means photo id would be elevated to the highest level of law in Ohio.
The General Assembly passed SJR 10 which was cosponsored by Senator Jane Timken and Senator
Theresa Gavarone.
They joined The President's Podcast last week to talk about the importance of elevating photo id to constitutional law in Ohio. It even got President Trump's attention and praise.
The work continues on crafting the state's data center policy guidelines based on the hearings held by the Joint Data Center Committee. The bill, HB 646, at this point reflects the testimony and input of local elected officials, citizens, and industry experts, and it represents a solid foundation for future updates that both chambers will be willing to pass.

This week Senate President Rob McColley highlights the importance of putting those protections into the Ohio Constitution on The President's Podcast.
