Senate President Looks Ahead to 2026 and Highlights Significant Legislative Accomplishments in 2025
The Snowstorm froze out the Senate’s first session of the year this week, but the President’s Podcast plows ahead with Senate President Rob McColley.
The Ohio General Assembly meets in two-year increments with the odd year being a budget year which must be balanced and passed by the end of June. This year the budget included the passage of a single income tax bracket, more commonly known as a flat tax. This was a remarkable achievement when a decade ago there were nine income tax brackets in Ohio.
That win for taxpayers was challenged by the call for significant property tax reform, and that is exactly what the legislature delivered following months of work that finally restored the system back to its anti-inflationary guardrails as originally intended.
2026 is a big election year in Ohio with all the statewide Executive Branch offices up for voters to decide in November. Senate Republicans firmly believe that the more information is available to the voters it results in increased voter participation. That's exactly what happened when the Senate during the 135th General Assembly, passed party designations for Ohio Supreme Court and Appellate Court races.
When that happened the “undervote” or number of people skipping those races on their ballot dropped drastically. Now Senate Bill 107, sponsored by Senate Education Chairman, Senator Andrew Brenner, would establish party designations for local school board races.
Senate President Rob McColley talks about all of that, plus he made some major headlines recently. Find out the latest in this week's President's Podcast available on YouTube, Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Podcasts, and iHeart.
