With gas prices holding steady in the mid to high $3 a gallon range, just for regular unleaded, and inflation grinding away at your grocery budget, vacation plans tend to take a back seat to a one tank trip or a “staycation” this summer.

Ohio is home to so many fantastic places to visit. Hocking Hills State Park, Geneva on the Lake and Ashtabula wine country, Cedar Point, Kings Island, and plenty of lakes around Ohio to cast a fishing line.

But if you’re a history buff, there is even more to see. Of course, Ohio started in SE Ohio, with Marietta becoming the first settlement of the Northwest Territory in 1787.  Campus Martius Museum features the two oldest buildings in Ohio, the Putnam House and The Ohio Company Land Office. The Ohio Statehouse is a living history museum, and is well worth taking a free tour.

This week, the President’s Podcast stops at the Sherman House in Lancaster. The home of Civil War General William Tecumseh Sherman is a must see in Fairfield County. It is filled with memorabilia from General Sherman’s life, his time leading the Union Army and an amazing new display featuring his battle sword.

Senator Tim Schaffer joins us from the Sherman House this week on the President’s Podcast.  Listen as he talks about this remarkable museum, the role of the State Capital Budget in preserving places like the Sherman House and his perspective on the billions of dollars in new economic development coming to the 20th Senate District with Intel and tech industry.
