Yost Selects January 6 Conspirator for Solicitor General
This month, I spoke out against the selection of Elliot Gaiser to replace Ben Flowers for the position of Ohio solicitor general.
I find it completely reprehensible that the Attorney General has decided to place an election-denying enemy of democracy as Ohio’s representative in front of the Supreme Court, and so should many Ohioans. We need to condemn those responsible for one of the darkest moments of America’s democracy, not empower those responsible.
Elliot Gaiser worked on the Donald Trump reelection bid, specifically on “election integrity.” He was mentioned numerous times in the Congressional January 6 hearings as giving advice to the president and his co-conspirators about possible options shortly before the insurrection attempt at the Capitol. When asked if his involvement in the insurrection attempt raised any concern for Attorney General Yost, Yost’s spokesperson replied: "Elliot is a nationally respected constitutional law expert. He is Ohio's next solicitor general because of his knowledge and expertise in the law.”
According to Cleveland.com, after the 2020 election then-White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany “told the House’s January 6 select committee that she communicated with Gaiser multiple times about challenging President Joe Biden’s victory.”
Election deniers have no place in our democracy. You can read more about Gaiser’s involvement in the January 6 insurrection here.
