Reineke Asks Ohio EPA to Pause Expansion of Sunny Farms Landfill

COLUMBUS—In a letter sent to Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) Director Laurie Stevenson this week, State Senator Bill Reineke (R-Tiffin) requested expansion plans For Sunny Farms Landfill in Fostoria be put on hold until all current issues are resolved.
"Landfills, while not popular installments to a local community, serve an important public purpose," Reineke said. "While the new owners of Sunny Farms hold no responsibility for causing the prior issues, they do have the duty to correct them as a good partner to the local community."
Sunny Farms Landfill was granted a Permit-to-Install (PTI) despite not being in full compliance with state law and OEPA standards.
Senator Reineke also highlighted his intention to introduce legislation that would make full compliance with Ohio law a requirement prior to any PTI application.
